ENCOUNTER

Often people meet each other for the first time online before having to negotiate common ground in person. Reflecting on how the digital revolution has changed the paradigm of personal interactions, Encounter (2011-ongoing) explores interpersonal dynamics between individuals in public or institutional spaces.

Using literature and oral history as a point of departure, I stage tableaus that visualize the liminal space between people who meet in person. These characters embody the power dynamics established by a social framework. The open narrative between them evokes a sense of possibility that has the potential of resolving itself in myriad ways.
